STAR (Science Technology and Art Research Group) was established in 1997, as one half of the Universities of Plymouth and Newport Wales' research group, CAiiA-STAR, directed by Professor Roy Ascott. The group supports the research of a number of high profile artists such as Char Davies, Eduardo Kac, Niranjan Rajah, Thecla Schiphorst, Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau. The STAR group includes Geoff Cox, Vladimir Geriomenko, Joasia Krysa, Dan Livingstone, Mike Phillips, Chris Speed, and enjoys the advice and support of Dr. Guido Bugman and Dr. Angelo Cangelosi in the fields of robotics and artificial life, building upon the School of Computing's interest in interactive media. The group have a substantive interest in generative systems, and in the relationship of art & technology, expressed in academic work and creative activity. STAR is part of the newly formed i-DAT: (Institute of Digital Art & Technology).
